In April 2004, I happened upon an ad, with no picture, for a 1967 Fastback S code (390), 4 spd in the back of the Auto Trader, located in Sandy, Utah. It was just two days before my wife Linda and I were scheduled to go to Salt Lake City for an eye doctor appointment. I called the number in the ad and spoke to the gentleman about the car. He stated it had new paint, new wheels and tires, and still had the original 390 engine, 4 spd transmission and 9" traction loc rear end. He said the paint was new but not show quality. I made an appointment to see the car the day after the eye appointment. His home was two miles from our hotel.
The car turned out to be a nice 10 footer, with gobs of paint on it. We paid his asking price and said we'd be back in a week or so to pick it up.
I considered it destiny that the very car I've always wanted was located only two miles from where we were staying and that I located it just two days before our trip. I'm not sure Linda thought of it as destiny, maybe more like insanity!
Three years later, it's been thoroughly gone thru. The motor was rebuilt by Bill Boyles, aka Dude, and I; the machine work and balancing was done by the Block & Head shop in Boise. The 390 is now bored .060 over, with Edelbrock aluminum heads, intake and water pump, Hooker Headers and Holley 750 double pumper.
Lee Barnhill of Rods and Restos in Boise did all the body and paint work. The color is 1966 Ford Silver Mink Metallic. The original color was Metallic Gray which is no longer available.
We plan to enjoy our silver beauty for many years while continuing to make upgrades.
